With the current lack of access to gym facilities throughout the district, we’ve determined the typical Running Rams program format will not be possible this season.  The focus of Running Rams has always been the development of young players within a team format, and without regular practice space during the week, this objective isn’t feasible at this time.  We remain hopeful that facilities access will return, but also recognize the urgency of finding alternatives for competition this upcoming season.  Facing this reality, we’ve decided to shift the focus of Running Rams for this fall and winter purely to skills development opportunities.  This shift will allow players to form teams and join leagues for competitive opportunities independent of Running Rams while also having the ability to work weekly with Coach Jenkins and his staff  on critical basketball skills development.  We encourage players to take advantage of any opportunity to play basketball this season and view the Running Rams Skills Development Program as a wonderful supplement for anyone looking to grow as a player.

The Running Rams Skills Development Program will be available to all prospective Running Rams players currently in grades 4-7 within the Southeast Polk School District.  Through partnership with the Altoona Campus, the program will be held on Sunday evenings beginning later this month or early next month and running for 8 weeks.  Cost of the program will be $125 per player and will include a reversible practice jersey to be worn each week.  We have secured both of the gyms at the Campus, allowing 4th & 5th graders the ability to train from 5:00 pm – 6:30 pm, then 6th & 7th graders from 6:30 – 8:00 pm.  Each session will include 30-45 minutes of skills development directed by members of the Southeast Polk coaching staff, with the last 30-45 minutes consisting of competitive scrimmages.  This structure will allow players to learn and practice new skills directly from the varsity staff and players, then immediately implement these skills into a competitive environment.

We are in the process of finalizing program specifics with the Campus and will get program dates out as soon as possible, but we felt it important to provide this update and information now so all families and players can plan accordingly.  Although we’re disappointed that the typical Running Rams program experience won’t be a reality this season, we are excited to offer this wonderful opportunity for players to develop and grow under the direction of Coach Jenkins and his team.
